Scots on the March!

The Scots army is slowly growing. The three infantry regiments are put together, primed, and one is complete with sixteen pike and twenty-four shot. The other two regiments are a bit larger at 40 figures each.. The Highland Shot is complete with 20 figures, and the lancers are put together, primed, andfour are complete. The frame gun is finished, and the saker gun is painted, but the crew needs finished.
The first four figures of the Lancers, the MacAuley Horse, painted. You can see the plaid worn around the lancer on the left. It is a simplifcation of the modern MacAuley tartan. The MacAuley clan was from the western lands in Scotland, and were a sept of the MacLeodclan.

The other side of the lancers. The bonnets and lances are conversions using green stuff and a bit of styrene pole.

The Scots army, positioned on the Campaign Map of Scotland. This map is two feet by three feet in size. The map of England and Wales is also this size, and will allow the entire war to be fought.
I hope to get pictures tomorrow of our first game.

Scottish Campaign Map

With this and the previous map you have the entire theater of war for the ECW. Routes are the most popular ones, although, there is no reason you couldn't cross the mountains via 'old goat trails' I suppose.

Map with background. Anytime two armies end up in the same colored line there can be a battle.

Outline of the Campaign Map showing travel distances for one day for armies on foot. Each color equils about one days travel for foot, or two color bands equil one days travel for horse. Map background is coming.

English Civil War League

The Gamer's Haven (local game store) has had it's first meeting of the ECW League. All four parties were represented with myself as the Convenanters. The ground rules were adopted with a buy in of 1000 point armies (using Warhammer ECW rules). My Scot's are still work in progress with two complete foot regiemnts, one frame gun, and one squadron of lancers. Commanded by my Colonel General I still need to aquire one more foot regiment to round out the points.
Our first scheduled battle will be next weekend with my Scots moving south to Newburn and an English Royalist army nothing north. Seen below are my Lancers and the Colonel General, Sir Davie McAuley. These lancers are Warlord games Royalist Cavalry, with bonnets and some plaids added with green stuff, and lances of styrene. This is my first work with green stuff and I like it. Hopefully I will get better at it as I continue to modify my troops. Seen behind the lancers is a Squadron of Royalist Horse, either to add to my army or to work as Scot's Roayalist Horse (boy No. 1 wats to do Scot's Royalists. He likes kilts...)
A closer look at one of the lancers, see wearing a plaid. Pretty simple conversion.

The cornet of the Second Squadron. The color is speculative, but based on the MacAuley coat of arms. Fairly typical of the period.

Below is the second regiment of foot I am working on, the Aberdeen Militia. Straight out of the Warlord's games box, primed grey with the color party and a few figures complete. They will rank as raw troops.

I will start posting more pics once we get into the games and as I complete work on the army.

The Convenanters

The first regiment is complete. They are Sir Mungo Campbell of Lawers' regiment of 32 figures, approx 400 men.

Here they are, coming out of the sun (apparently hidden prior by a large wooden chair?).

The entire army consists of two regiments of foot, one battalion of highland shot, and one battalion of commanded shot- to be used as the Forlorn Hope. The artillery has one saker gun and one frame gun, both in the process of being painted. The second foot regiment is put together and awaits priming before I paint them. They will be the Lord Chancellor's Regiment.

The rest of the proposed army will consist of two more regiments in the First Brigade- the Earl of Finlater's and the Earl of Lothian's regiments.

The Cavalry will conists of three units, Halkett's, Drummond's, and Campbell's troops.

So far I can field the army using stand ins, mostly GW's Empire troops. This gives me four infantry regiments, a detachment of highlanders, one lochbar axe detachment, and two troops of cavalry.

You can see here the army set up in a checkerboard formation, very common for the period. The skirmish troops of the forlorn hope are out front, cannon in the rear, and cavalry on the flanks.

The highland levies.

Well, more painting to be done...updates soon on our beginning Campaign.
